College and Career Awareness (CCA) --7th Grade 

College and Career Awareness (CCA) offers exploration and preparation in college and career pathways focusing on jobs that are high skill and high demand, as well as satisfying and financially rewarding. The College and Career Awareness (CCA) course is designed to help students identify their interests, abilities, and skills. Through application-based lessons, students will utilize technology, develop foundational skills, and explore careers. The course provides information regarding additional courses and training related to each student’s career field of interest to help align their future class choices.

Digital Literacy -- 8th Grade

This course is a foundation to the digital world that provides a broad understanding of key applications, computing fundamentals, and living online. Students will have opportunities to use technology and develop skills that promote creativity, critical thinking, productivity, and collaboration in the classroom and day-to-day life. This course is aligned with international and national standards. The alignment of these benchmarks will ensure that students complete this course as a prerequisite to transition successfully to the 9-12th grade digital studies courses.

FCS Exploration Semester -- 8th Grade

This course provides students the opportunity to develop essential skills in various career pathways related to Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). Students will explore and cultivate skills in the areas of food and nutrition, childcare, interior design, sewing construction, entrepreneurship, family relationships, personal responsibility, and career and job-related tasks. A variety of hands-on projects will be incorporated into each area.

Child Development Semester -- 9th Grade 

This course is designed to help students understand the normal growth and development of children from infancy to preschool age. Topics taught include parenting, heredity, birth defects, human reproduction, pregnancy, health and safety, and guidance techniques. Students will have the opportunity to experience hands-on parenting using a computerized Real Care Baby.

Sports Outdoor Sewing -- 9th Grade 

This course introduces students to basic sewing, design, and construction skills. These skills prepare students for fashion, and appeal industry as well as entrepreneurial opportunities. Students will sew apparel and accessory projects. It is recommended that students have previous sewing experience.

Interior Design Semester -- 9th Grade

This course enables students to explore their creativity in the field of interior design. Identification of the elements and principles of design are emphasized. Other topics taught include floor plan evaluation, furniture arrangement, kitchen design, color schemes, and careers. Students will apply what they learn through a variety of individual projects.

Food and Nutrition Semester -- 9th Grade

This course will focus on culinary and nutrition science. Students will study the course used to obtain a UTAH FOOD HANDLERS PERMIT. Students will also gain skills and understanding of culinary technology, food preparation and dietary knowledge for a healthy lifestyle. Laboratory experiences will focus on the science behind food preparation as we learn about dishes such as, Fettuccini Alfredo, quick breads, stir-fry, and Ice Cream Cake Roll.

Word Processing -- 7th Grade

In Word Processing, the student will master touch operation of the computer keyboard. Correct finger positioning, by touch on the keyboard, and good technique will receive primary emphasis. The student will also learn simple word processing skills such as formatting simple documents in Microsoft Word. Each student will strive to get 35 WPM with 97% accuracy on a 2-minute timing as a minimum goal for the semester. Keyboard covers will be used throughout the semester. This is a good prerequisite for the required eighth grade Digital Literacy course.

Creative Coding Semester -- 7th & 8th Grade

This course is designed to attract and reach a broad and diverse range of students, including those who may not have never considered programming. Students learn how to code by working in a real software development environment to design, program and publish mobile apps and games. Learning to code by creating real products, students discover how to make amazing things and have an impact on their world.

Exploring Computer Science -- 9th Grade

Exploring Computer Science is designed to introduce students to the breadth of the field of computer science through an exploration of engaging and accessible topics. The course focuses on the conceptual ideas of computing and helps students understand why certain tools or languages might be utilized to solve specific problems. The goal of Exploring Computer Science is to develop in students the computational thinking practices of algorithm development, problem solving, and programming within the context of problems that are relevant to the lives of today’s students. Students will also be introduced to topics such as artificial intelligence, web development, programming, and physical computing.

Python (Coding) -- 8th & 9th Grade

This is a basic coding class. Python is a language with a simple syntax, and a powerful set of libraries.

Exploring Technology: Robotics -- 7th & 8th Grade

Students learn to build, and program VEX robots. Students will practice mechanical design, construction, programming, and teamwork skills. Using VEX building pieces, motors and sensors, students will build robots that can complete a variety of challenges and obstacles. Students will use a computer to program their robot. In this course, students will work through processes of idea creation, planning, logical thinking, analysis, and computational thinking to solve problems and accomplish goals.

Exploring Technology: Design and Modeling -- 7th & 8th Grade

Design and Modeling provides students opportunities to apply the design process to creatively solve problems. They learn sketching, solid modeling, and prototyping. Students will print final products on a 3D printer. They will also learn how to create SVG files that can be used on a laser engraver.

Exploring Technology: Electronics -- 7th & 8th Grade

Through hands-on projects, students will explore electricity, the behavior and parts of atoms, basic circuitry design, and sensing devices. They will use sensors and actuators to develop systems that interact with their environment. Students will code and upload programs to microcontrollers that perform a variety of tasks.

Robotics Technology: Automation and Robotics -- 8th & 9th Grade

Robotics Technology focuses on what it means to live in an automated world. Students will trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use VEX V5 to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotics arms.

Robotics Technology: Flight and Space -- 9th Grade

Students will gain an understanding of how transportation impacts politics, the environment, society, and the economy. They will become aerospace engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel to space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.

Engineering Technology -- 9th Grade 

Students will explore various aspects of engineering along with technology’s environmental, societal, political, and economic impacts on the world. They will explore how science impacts technology. Students will use the engineering design process to create a product or system using the shop equipment.
